(Part 2 of 2)

As noted in a recent press release by the NM's Division of Taxation and Revenue, more than $98 million in NM unclaimed funds is in the government's hands and the money is just waiting to be discovered by owners who have misplaced their financial assets over the years. According to the state's press release, "New Mexico Unclaimed Property includes security deposits for utilities, bond money, insurance proceeds, income tax refund checks that were undeliverable and property abandoned in safety deposit boxes." Property from forgotten safety deposit boxes includes things like jewelry, comic books, old coins, other collector items and family heirlooms. NM Unclaimed Money Law requires these assets to be handed over to the state after 3 to 5 years of being 'dormant' or 'inactive'.

There are 000 owners of NM state unclaimed funds and chances are, they do not even realize they're missing money. Sometimes people move and don't remember to leave behind their new address. This results in undeliverable mail, which may include mailed checks or notices of inheritance or other financial documents. People also pass away without telling their next of kin about any financial assets they might have. There are several other reasons for monies getting lost and fact is, it is happening everywhere in the United States – especially now given the fast-paced lifestyles most people now lead. It's easy to forget about picking up final paychecks and retirement benefits when moving on to something new in one's life. Nationally, unclaimed funds now totals about $35 billion spread out over the 50 states and more is being added to that each year!

In ten years' time, more than $130 million in unclaimed funds in NM was collected from banks, the IRS, and other financial institutions throughout the state. The state is required to advertise owners names in the local newspaper of the last known address of the owners just once per year (every November), so this leaves a lot of room for unclaimed funds owners in NM to overlook their abandoned assets. The last known address may not be where the owner lives anymore, or there can be errors in the address on the letters. People should take the initiative and perform an unclaimed funds search in NM and other states, for that matter. Chances are great that you just might be owed government unclaimed funds in different states, especially if you have lived in or have relatives in several states.

(Part 1 of 2)

Not many people realize it, but NM is home to quite a few American icons. In 1950, the little cub that was to become the symbol for National Fire Safety, Smokey the Bear, was found trapped in a tree when his home in Lincoln National Forest was destroyed by fire. The The place formerly known as the "Cowboy capital of the world" is the town of Cimarron and was home to Kit Carson and "Buffalo Bill" Cody. And just as the Carlsbad Caverns (whose largest chamber is more than 10 football fields long and about 22 stories high) houses tens of thousands of American bats, the State's Taxation and Revenue Department is home to almost $100 million in New Mexico unclaimed money.

As noted in a recent press release by the NM's Division of Taxation and Revenue, $98,038,643.58 in NM unclaimed funds is in the government's hands and the money is just waiting to be discovered by owners who have lost track of their financial assets over the years. According to the government press release, "New Mexico Unclaimed Property includes security deposits for utilities, bond money, insurance proceeds, income tax refund checks that were undeliverable and property abandoned in safety deposit boxes." Property from forgotten safety deposit boxes includes things like jewelry, comic books, old coins, other collector items and family heirlooms. NM Unclaimed Funds Law requires these properties to be handed over to the state after three to five years of being 'inactive' or 'dormant'.

There are more than 682 owners of NM state unclaimed funds and odds are, they do not even realize they're missing money. Sometimes people relocate and forget to leave behind their new address. This results in mail that goes undelivered, which may include mailed checks or notices of inheritance or other financial documents. People also pass away without letting their next of kin know about any financial assets they might have. There are a number of other reasons for assets being abandoned and fact is, it is happening everywhere in the United States – especially now given the fast-paced lives the majority of people now lead. It is easy to forget about collecting final paychecks and retirement pensions when moving on to something new in one's life. Across the country, unclaimed funds now totals approximately $35 billion spread out over the 50 states and more is added to that every year!

(Part 2 of 2)

There are 682,766 owners of New Mexico state unclaimed funds and chances are, they don't even realize they are missing money. Often people move and forget to leave behind a forwarding address. This results in undeliverable mail, which may include mailed checks or notices of inheritance or other financial documents. People also pass away without letting their next of kin know about any financial assets they might have. There are several other reasons for assets being abandoned and fact is, it's happening everywhere in the U.S. – especially now given the fast-paced lifestyles most people now lead. It is easy to forget about picking up last paychecks and retirement benefits when moving on to something new in one's life. Nationally, unclaimed funds now totals approximately $35 billion spread out over the 50 states and more is added to that each year!

In 10 years' time, more than $130,000,000 in unclaimed funds in New Mexico was collected from the IRS, banks, and other financial institutions throughout the state. The state is required to list owners names in the local newspaper of the last known address of the owners just once a year (every November), so this leaves a lot of room for unclaimed funds owners in New Mexico to overlook their abandoned assets. The last known address may not be where the owner lives anymore, or there can be errors in the address on letters sent out. People should take the initiative and do an unclaimed funds search in New Mexico and other states, for that matter. Odds are good that you just may be owed government unclaimed funds in different states, especially if you've lived in or have relatives in more than one state.

Not many people know it, but New Mexico is home to quite a few American icons. In 1950, the little cub that was to become the National Fire Safety symbol, Smokey the Bear, was discovered trapped in a tree after his home in Lincoln National Forest was destroyed by fire. The New Mexican city of Cimarron, once known as the "Cowboy capital of the world", was home to "Buffalo Bill" Cody and Kit Carson. And just as the Carlsbad Caverns (whose largest chamber is more than 10 football fields long and about 22 stories high) is home to tens of thousands of American bats, the State's Taxation and Revenue Dept. is home to roughly $100 million in New Mexico unclaimed money.

According to a recent press release by the New Mexico's Division of Taxation and Revenue, more than $98 million in New Mexico unclaimed funds is in the government's hands and the cash is just waiting to be claimed by owners who have misplaced their financial assets over the years. According to the state's press release, "New Mexico Unclaimed Property includes security deposits for utilities, bond money, insurance proceeds, income tax refund checks that were undeliverable and property abandoned in safety deposit boxes." Property from abandoned safety deposit boxes includes things like jewelry, comic books, old coins, other collector items and family heirlooms. New Mexico Unclaimed Funds Law requires these assets to be passed along to the state after three to five years of being 'inactive' or 'dormant'.

(Part 1 of 2)

Not a lot of people know it, but New Mexico is home to quite a few American icons. In 1950, the little cub that was to become the symbol for National Fire Safety, Smokey the Bear, was discovered trapped in a tree after his home in Lincoln National Forest was destroyed by fire. The New Mexican city of Cimarron, once known as the "Cowboy capital of the world", was home to Kit Carson and "Buffalo Bill" Cody. And just as the Carlsbad Caverns (whose largest chamber is more than 10 football fields long and about 22 stories high) houses tens of thousands of American bats, the State's Taxation and Revenue Dept. is home to nearly $100 million in New Mexico unclaimed money.

As noted in a recent press release by the New Mexico's Division of Taxation and Revenue, more than $98 million in New Mexico unclaimed funds is in the government's hands and the cash is just waiting to be discovered by owners who have misplaced their financial assets over the years. According to the government press release, "New Mexico Unclaimed Property includes security deposits for utilities, bond money, insurance proceeds, income tax refund checks that were undeliverable and property abandoned in safety deposit boxes." Property from abandoned safety deposit boxes includes things like comic books, jewelry, other collector items, family heirlooms and old coins. New Mexico Unclaimed Money Law requires these assets to be passed along to the state after three to five years of being 'inactive' or 'dormant'.

There are 682,766 owners of New Mexico state unclaimed funds and odds are, they do not even know they're missing money. Sometimes people relocate and forget to leave behind a forwarding address. This results in undeliverable mail, which may include notices of inheritance or mailed checks or other financial documents. People also pass away without telling their next of kin about any financial assets they may have. There are several other reasons for monies getting lost and fact is, it is happening everywhere in the United States – especially now given the fast-paced lives most people are leading. It's easy to forget about picking up last paychecks and retirement pensions when moving on to something new in our lives. Across the country, unclaimed funds now totals approximately $35 billion spread out over the 50 states and more is added to that each year!
