Locating NM Unclaimed Cash – Part 2 of 2

(Part 2 of 2)

In ten years' time, over $130 million in unclaimed property in NM was taken in from the IRS, banks, and other financial institutions across the state. The state is required to advertise owners names in the local newspaper of the last known address of the owners only once a year (in November), so this leaves a lot of room for unclaimed property owners in NM to overlook their missing money. The last known address may not be where the owner lives anymore, or there may be errors in the address on letters sent out. Residents should take the initiative and do an unclaimed property search in NM and other states, for that matter. Chances are good that you just might be owed government unclaimed property in different states, especially if you have lived in or have relatives in multiple states.
